A manager at the Whole Foods store located at 150 Ledge Road notified police that she witnessed a customer, 31-year-old Luis Rivera, attempting to exit the store without paying for all of his groceries. The manager said she followed Rivera to the parking lot to confront him, and he allegedly claimed that he would return to the store to pay.

Rivera then left the premises, and the manager told officers that she had seen him in the store before. Employees allegedly witnessed Rivera take a large amount of seafood and cover it with other groceries in his cart to avoid paying.

The officers were able to get the license plate from Rivera’s vehicle after watching surveillance footage. Rivera admitted to the theft and turned himself in after police contacted him.

Rivera was charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on a $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Stamford court on Thursday, Jan. 10.
